What’s more, it comes with a waterproof 12” coil as standard for greater depth. No matter where the hunt takes you, the 540 is the ultimate detector that lets you detect on your terms.

Minelab Vanquish 540 is the upper end of the new Vanquish series. With advanced technology not found in more expensive machines and turn on and go usability combined with a lightweight, compact design, this is the ultimate machine for the beginner to intermediate detectorist and a serious back-up for the expert. The 540 model comes with the larger V12 search coil as standard, giving improved depth. Offering 3 pre-set detecting modes plus pin-point and all metal modes the Vanquish 540 will take your detecting to the next level. With additional iron bias control and 25 discrimination segments, you have fine control to decide the metals you accept, while an All Metal shortcut button lets you quickly accept everything.

The Vanquish 540 also includes a red back-light display, headphones, rain cover, arm strap, skid plate, and Bluetooth aptX low-latency wireless audio capability, all for under £400.

Detect Modes

Now anyone can harness the unrivaled power of Multi-IQ, with easily selectable pre-set detecting modes, already set up and tested by Minelab experts. There is no need to learn the complexities of various settings, the hard work has been done for you. Simply select one of the four Search Modes — Coin, Relic, Jewellery, or Custom — then start swinging. Each mode is pre-programmed and optimised to give you the best performance, anytime and anywhere: park, field or beach. You can even save your favourite settings to a custom Search Mode. 

The real intelligence of the system is that the Multi-IQ processing will collate and compare the signals from all operating frequencies, analyzing the similarities and differences between them to get a clearer picture of what's really down there. This gives you better target ID and discrimination at greater depth, and the versatility to perform in a wider range of ground types, handling mineralisation, wet sand, etc. That means you can find and identify targets that a single frequency will struggle with.

Our Expert Option

The Vanquish 540 really is a great machine for detecting inland and on the beaches, powerful but simple enough for beginners to use and also experienced detectorists too. The added Iron Bias control helps you to get in between those trashy ferrous iron targets and retrieve the non-ferrous targets in iron-infested sites. You can also change and lower the volume of the iron tone so that when you are searching in all metal mode you are not overwhelmed by it, this helps to pick out the nonferrous targets when in busy/trashy areas. The 12" elliptical coil is great for covering more ground and can gain greater depth if the ground conditions allow it.

The only downside to the standard Vanquish 540 is that it comes with wired headphones although you can later buy the wireless ML80 headphones for it. We do recommend if your budget allows it, upgrade from this to the 540 Pro-Pack, this includes the low latency ML80 wireless Bluetooth headphones which really make a difference to your metal detecting experience every time you go to dig a hole. It also comes with an extra 8 x 5-inch search coil.
